From Colombia to the UK
Alejandro Puertas Gil
I am a musician, music producer, and sound technician from Bogotá, Colombia. My journey began at the age of 10, when I had the opportunity to learn an instrument, developing my passion for music and my first skills as a bassist at music schools in Chía and Cajicá, Colombia.
In 2020, I enrolled at the School of Music, Media, Art, and Technology – EMMAT with a talent-based scholarship, where I further developed my understanding of music theory and bass performance. During this process, I had doubts about pursuing a career as a musician and living from music. These doubts were clarified during the Vocational Technical Qualification in Audio Operations course, when a tutor introduced the topic of live events in one of the classes, which immediately captured my interest.

With this in mind, I completed an internship at TrebolM Studios, where I gained hands-on experience in audio for live music and theatre shows. At the same time, I formed a rock-alternative fusion band called VEREDICTO, applying my skills in music production, bass performance, and songwriting. We performed in bars and private events around Bogotá, where the poor sound quality only motivated me even more to pursue studies in live sound.
Unfortunately, I could not find any suitable live sound programs in Colombia, so I started exploring opportunities abroad. This led me to discover several programs in the United Kingdom, where I found exactly what I was looking for: the BSc (Hons) Sound, Lighting, and Live Event Technology at the University of South Wales. I am currently studying in this program, taking every opportunity to grow my professional career in the live audio and technology sector.
